The Nintendo Wii Fit in a Nutshell - Entertainment

Nintendo announced the release of the Wii Fit, designed by famed game designer Shigeru Miyamoto at a press conference on July 11, 2007. Since then it has been a worldwide smash hit. Let's take a quick at it.

The Wii series is the 7th generation Nintendo gaming system. The major difference and feature of this system is its wireless controller called the Wii remote which detects motion and rotation in three dimensions and features sensory feedback.

The console is bundled with Wii Sports, a package of five sports games including bowling, tennis and golf. It uses a specialized platform peripheral called the Wii Balance Board to measure the game players' weight and centre of gravity and thereby enabling calculation of his/her body mass index known as BMI.

Game players can then compare their fitness with each other by using the Wii Menu, which tracks a game players daily Fitness Age by testing the body and using the game players age, weight and athletic ability.

The console has four categories of exercise with a total of forty activities: aerobic exercise, muscle workouts, yoga poses and balance games including Slalom Skiing. Other features of the Wii Fit are an activity log, which allows the game player to keep track of activities outside the gaming system whilst Fit Cash is the points system awarded to the players depending on their level of performance. This then of course encourages the player to do better next time and thereby increasing level of fitness.

It seems that everyone, from pauper to megastar has been buying and using the Wii Fit Balance Board for their fitness and even for basic coordination. If you haven't got one - get one. You'll love it.
