The Nintendo Wii popularly known as the "Wii", is Nintendo's latest home gaming console. Being a VIIth-generation console, the Wii gives fierce competition to the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. According to Nintendo, the Wii has a broader demographic than both of its rivals. As of December 31, 2008 the Wii leads in terms of sales over the PS3 and Xbox 360 worldwide.
A major USP of the Wii is its wireless controller, the Wii Remote, which can act as a handheld pointing device and can also detect 3D movements. Another attraction is the exclusive WiiConnect24, which allows receiving messages and updates on the Internet even in standby.
The Wii is Nintendo's fifth product in the home console department, preceded by the Nintendo GameCube is compatible for all its games. Nintendo entered the console market first in 2005 when Satoru Iwata revealed a prototype.
There is a great crave for the Nintendo worldwide. According to some latest sales charts, in North America, Mario Party 8 rules the market as the top selling game for the Wii, followed by Resident 4: Wii edition which enables use of the motion sensor facility. Other games such as the Wii Play and the Pokemon battle occupy high positions on the charts.
Latest news reports state that the Wii is out of stock. It is virtually impossible to find the Wii at retail stores. This situation exists even after seven month of its release to the comsumers of North America. The Wii is on limited stores on the Amazon. The excess demand is such that users are selling second hand systems at Amazon at a price which is higher than the brand new price of the Wii.
The popularity of the Nintendo can be ascertained by the following incident: An individual was reported saying that she had to obtain permission from the place where she works as she had to get in line to buy the Wii. She had already waited for buying the Wii for over two weeks.
The grand introduction of the PS-1 enabled it to be perceived as the big thing but the Nintedo Wii's introduction easily beats the PS-1.
According to the analysts "no system ever has been seen with such great demand even after six months of its launch." Some people say it's as attractive as an iphone which added the meaning of love at first sight to electronic gadgets.
In general, you got to be dumb if you can and still you don't buy the Wii.
