New Nintendo Wii Remote Charging Dock - Business - Product Reviews

The Nintendo Wii gets its first really neccesity item this month. If you are new to video gaming technology the Wii is the latest video game console from Nintendo released during Dec 2006. The Wii uses a wireless controller that must be powered via batteries. Up until now the only choice you had was to replace the batteries when they became low. Well now you have another option the Nintendo Wii Remote Charging Dock & Battery Pack. The kit come with rechargeable batteries that boasts a 38 hour play time. This is a significant boost in useability since the current play time from a fresh set of batteries is only 18 - 20 hours.

When the Xbox360 came out in Nov 2005 I soon found out it ate batteries almost as fast as I could stuff them into it. So my first luxury item I purchased for it was the rechargeable battery packs for it and it literally saved me hundreds of dollars on battery replacement. I suspect the Nintendo Wii Remote Charging Dock & Battery Pack will do the same for the Wii owner. Unlike the Xbox360 version that will let you use the controller through a wired connection while charge the Wii Remote Charging Dock doesn't allow for gameplay during charging cycles.

One good thing is that you can easily just drop the controller into the dock and let it recharge while you take a break for a while or even over night. Another cool thing is that it looks so impressive, but I guess thats just an aesthetics feature more than a functional feature, but it does look cool. Also you can connect the USB cable it comes with to any USB power source, such as your computer, and charge the batteries.

Expected retail price for this item is to $24.99 in game stores and shipment of this new accessory is expected to start in late Feb but will be interrupted by the Chinese New Year and shipment will resume around the 2nd week of March. So if you want one of these its best to get your pre-order in now since this will be a sold out item at all game stores when it does start shipping. Better yet you can pre-order one here directly. We have made a special deal with our vendors to get these units at $19.99 so you can actually save a few bucks and be sure to get one once they do start appearing on the shelves of retail stores.

To sum it up if this charging dock works anywhere near as good as the one does for the Xbox360 this will be a must have for the Wii gamer. If it does in fact last 30 some hours between charges then it will be better that the Xbox360's charger. Either way even if it doesn't, just the fact of not having to constantly buy batteries and saving you money on batteries in the process is never a bad thing and this alone will more than pay for the price of the unit.
