The Wii although being one of the most advanced controls today is Nintendo's smallest, measuring just 44 X 7 X 215.4 mm. The dimensions can be compared to three DVD cases stacked together. Weighing a meager 1.2 kg, the Nintendo Wii is the lightest of the seventh generation consoles. The console can be placed either horizontally or vertically. Several parts of the console have been chipped of from the corners in triangular fashion to give it classy symmetry.
The media drive of the console is compatible with both Wii Optical Discs and Nintendo GameCube Game Discs. The disc slot gives a blue light when the system is turned on. Rear end of the console has two USB ports. The SD card slot is located behind the cover on the front of the console.
There are a large number of components that come with Nintendo Wii within the package. It includes a stand for vertical placing of the system, one Wii Remote, one Nunchuk attachment, one Sensor Bar, one power adapter, two AA batteries, a composite AV cable with RCA connectors and a copy of the game Wii Sports( the copy is available in most but not all countries).
The present disc reader of the Wii does not play DVD Video or Audio discs. An advanced version that gives DVD-Video playback too is under construction. Nintendo is seeking a drastic firmware upgrade for its future models. Irrespective of the Nintendo making its intentions clear about the DVD-playback option, many people have resorted to the Wii homebrew to avail the facility of DVD playback from there console. The Wii homebrew is an external device. The device is also being tricked in order to use it for functions other than the ones intended by Nintendo.
The Nintendo Wiis remote is available only in white till date. Nintendo has revealed its plans to release the console in black colors. In Japan, the console has been promised to come in black color, including remote, along with the game Monster Hunter 3.
The Wii is self sufficient in itself. The components of the Wii are enough to give the user a mind blowing experience as promised by Nintendo. All the external accessories are required only for secondary functions such as DVD Playback. In years to come Nintendo plans to introduce a system that can perform even the secondary functions. In general, if you are wondering that Nintendo has shown you what all they can, then youve got it all wrong!!!
